This February, it’s trending North – Canadian art, that is. See below for this month’s picks, all hailing from queer artists in Canada:
Sylvain Rolando (Montreal, Canada)
Sylvain created the artistic project “Oh Mon Doux” to celebrate positive and tender representations of love between GBTQ+ men, which were missing for him during his childhood. This initiative allows him to be more involved in promoting the well-being of the LGBTQ+ community through socially engaged projects that depict a tender, playful, and happy sexuality. / https://www.ohmondoux.com/
Matthew Walton (Toronto, Canada)
Matthew Walton is a painter and mixed-media artist based in Toronto, Canada. His work primarily focuses on the human form, queer intimacy, and queer joy. mwaltonartworks.com
Mikael Gravelle (Quebec, Canada)
Mikael Gravelle is a multidisciplinary artist from Canada. As a writer, illustrator, graphic designer and painter, his work is a meeting of the textual and the visual. In his artistic practice, Mikael draws from his vulnerability in order to transform it into poignant and transgressive images, giving rise to stories that combine intimacy and marginal experience. Mikael has exhibited several times in Montreal and Gatineau, has often collaborated with collectives, and has published two poetry books. Finally, he has a diploma in infographics, has a bachelor’s degree in Arts and Design from the University of Quebec in Outaouais, and has been a member of the Association of Authors of Outaouais since 2020.
